Webinar on IMF's Regional Economic Outlook for MENA: An Uneven Recovery amid High Uncertainty

The International Monetary Fund-Middle East Center for Economics and Finance (IMF-CEF) and the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD) held a joint webinar titled “IMF’s Regional Economic Outlook for MENA: An Uneven Recovery amid High Uncertainty" on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Mr. Paulo Drummond, Director of the CEF, delivered opening remarks, and Mr. Moez Souissi, Deputy Director of the CEF, moderated the event.

Ms. Borislava Mircheva, Senior Economist at MCD, presented the recent economic developments and outlook for the MENA region, emphasizing the importance of balancing policy priorities while considering country-specific challenges. Then, she delved into the economic impacts of conflicts on the Middle East and Central Asia region, highlighting the need for decisive actions to strengthen economic fundaments and institutions. Mr. Salem Nechi, Economist at MCD, discussed the implications of the ongoing changes in trade patterns and geoeconomic landscape, exploring strategies to mitigate risks while capitalizing on trade opportunities in the short and medium term.

The floor then opened for a discussion during the Q&A session with a diverse audience from the Arab world, comprised of public sector officials, academics, and representatives of the business community, civil society, and other international organizations.
