Webinar on Taxation in the Middle East and North Africa: Prospects and Possibilities

May 25, 2026

The IMF-Middle East Center for Economics and Finance (IMF-CEF) and the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department  are pleased to invite you to a webinar to discuss Taxation in the Middle East and North Africa. The webinar will be held on Monday, 25th of May, from 2:00 – 3:15 p.m. (Kuwait time).

Discussions will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic.

This webinar aims to bring together regional evidence and policy insight on taxation from the recent IMF book “Taxation in the Middle East and North Africa: Prospects and Possibilities.” Drawing on a comprehensive review of income and consumption taxes across 21 MENA countries, speakers will highlight how diverse political, economic, and geographic factors have shaped tax systems and reform priorities across the region. They will discuss revenue performance, efficiency, and equity dimensions of major tax instruments, and identify reform options tailored to country-specific constraints. They will also cover taxation of oil and gas, corrective energy taxes, and the current state of tax administration.
