Webinar on Artificial Intelligence for Financial Sector Supervision: An Emerging Market and Developing Economies Perspective

The International Monetary Fund–Middle East Center for Economics and Finance (IMF-CEF) and the World Bank (WB) hosted a webinar titled “Artificial Intelligence for Financial Sector Supervision: An Emerging Market and Developing Economies Perspective ” on Monday, December 1, 2025. Mr. Moez Souissi, Deputy Director of the CEF, delivered the opening remarks and moderated the session. Mr. Erik Feyen, WB Head of Global Macro-Financial Monitoring and Lead Financial Sector Economist, presented an overview the state of AI adoption in financial sector supervision by Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDE). The presentation highlighted the associated practical issues, challenges, and risks EMDE face. He also discussed how financial authorities are beginning to identify and monitor AI-related risks in financial consumer protection and market conduct .
Following the presentation, the floor was opened for a Q&A session with a diverse audience from the Arab world, comprised of public sector officials, academics, and representatives of the business community, civil society, and other international organizations.
