The International Monetary Fund-Middle East Center for Economics and Finance (IMF-CEF) and the Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) held a joint webinar titled "Advances in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Capital Market Activities" on Tuesday 20th of May, 2025. Mr. Paulo Drummond, Director at the CEF, delivered opening remarks at the beginning of the event, which was moderated by Mr. Zouheir El-Sahli, Senior Economist. The floor was then given to Mr. Benjamin Mosk and Ms. Puja Singh, Senior Financial Sector experts who first gave an overview and introduction to the subject as well as highlighted the motivation for this topic. The speakers delved into the transformative effects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on capital markets, emphasizing the efficiency gains achieved through automation and advanced data analysis. They discussed the structural changes brought about by AI, such as the rise of algorithmic trading and the development of innovative investment strategies, while also addressing the potential risks to financial stability and market opacity. Additionally, the speakers highlighted the importance of regulatory frameworks in managing these challenges and ensuring the responsible integration of AI in financial practices. The floor then opened for a discussion during the Q&A session with a diverse audience from the Arab world, comprised of public sector officials, academics, and representatives of the business community, civil society, and other international organizations
